SureStart Maternity Grant
The SureStart Maternity Grant is available to help you with the extra costs that comes with having a baby. You usually qualify for this grant if you have no other children (unless you are expecting a multiple birth, e.g. twins) and if you receive one of the following benefits:
- Income Support
- Income based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit which includes an amount higher than the family element
- Working Tax Credit which includes a disability or severe disability element
- Universal Credit
You must claim within 11 weeks of expecting the baby or within 3 months of the birth. If you are becoming responsible for a child, e.g. through adoption, you must claim within 3 months of the child being placed with you.
