Childcare is expensive, but there are ways of reducing that cost. If you or your partner are working, you can get help from your employer with childcare vouchers.
You can use them for payment toward nurseries, registered childminders and if you have older children, then you can use them to pay for after school and breakfast clubs.
It is basically a salary sacrifice scheme, so either you and/or your partner will give up some earnings in exchange for childcare vouchers. The amount of childcare vouchers you can receive without having to pay tax or National Insurance contributions will depend on when you joined your employer's scheme and on the level of pay you receive from your employer.
Please remember that childcare vouchers may affect the amount of tax credits you can get. Use the online calculator on the HMRC website to help you decide whether you would be better off taking the vouchers or not.
